FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Puppies learn at an extraordinary rate and sometimes it’s not always for the best. In the first 16 weeks of life, 80% of their brain has already stored information but what we need to ensure is that the information stored is going to aid our puppies not hinder them. This period of their life is vital for experiencing the world around them through a socialisation process. It’s important that our puppies not only enjoy meeting people and other dogs but are also happy to explore the world around them, after all, we are expecting dogs to adapt to a very human world. Puppy and dog training classes have also been proven to reduce the risk of dogs ending up in rescue.

  • Unfortunately, our puppy classes are only for dogs aged between 12 and 24 weeks of age at the start of the course. This is to ensure all dogs start at a similar age and are at a similar stage of development. We want our puppies to feel safe and secure and sometimes older more lively dogs can be intimidating to a young puppy at this early stage in their life.

  • Yes, all puppies must have had their first and second vaccination before attending puppy class. We will need to see proof of vaccination prior to week 1 before participation. Unfortunately, we cannot issue a refund if your puppy is not fully vaccinated except under exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the instructor.

  • No. If your puppy is unwell then please do not bring them to the class. Young puppies’ immune systems are still under development and we don’t want to risk other puppies being exposed to a sick puppy, even if it’s nothing serious. If your puppy is poorly, please phone your puppy instructor a head of time. You are still welcome to attend class but please leave your puppy at home.

  • Each week we will cover a different area of the programme. It is important you attend all of the classes to give your puppy the most opportunity for success. If you do have to miss a class, please notify the instructor as soon as possible. You will get access to what we have covered in the class on the members access page.

  • Your puppy will learn some great basic life skills including how to sit, settle down, walk loose on a lead, come when called, mix appropriately with other dogs, sit and stay, leave it, appropriate toy play, how to swap and many more fun activities, all through positive reward based, force-free training. You will be taught the basics on puppy parenting from toilet training to vehicle safety.

  • On week 1 you will receive your free training kit which includes small bag of puppy treats, and a few extras. You will require extra treats throughout the class and each of the subsequent classes. This should be a mix of small tasty treats.

A water bowl and water. Due to the risk of cross-contamination, we do not provide bowls.

Your puppy’s vaccination card with proof your puppy has been fully vaccinated. Without this on week 1, your puppy will not be able to participate in the class until we have seen proof of vaccinations.

All puppies must be on a normal lead and a flat collar or collar and harness with appropriate ID (required by law). Flexi leads are not suitable for use at puppy classes due to the risk of injury.
